The Robert W. Greene Summer Institute for High School Journalists, a weeklong residential program that invites rising high school juniors and seniors to immerse themselves in the world of journalism through workshops and hands-on practice, invites applications for this year’s program to be held at Stony Brook University.
The program will be held Monday through Friday, July 26-31, 2026.
The application deadline is March 6.
Students will learn from Stony Brook University professors and working professionals while meeting new friends and getting a taste of college life. Full scholarships are available based on financial need, thanks to passionate supporters of the Greene Institute.
There is a fee of $1,500 to be paid upon acceptance, which will cover campus housing, meals and tuition. Several need-based scholarships covering the total costs are available, so students are strongly encouraged to apply regardless of their ability to pay.
Early applications are encouraged for the limited number of available spots. Students will need to include samples of work they’ve completed in journalism or other subjects such as English, creative writing, history, media arts or photography. They will also need a reference from a high school faculty member such as a teacher or guidance counselor.
